Last night the Friends of the East Brunswick Environmental Commission held a "Back to School" moth night, the last of the season for us. We set up lights and sheet at the enterance to the woods of Butterfly Park and painted trees with moth bait. Close to 50 people, families and kids, showed up. Lots of different species of moths and other insects came to rest on the sheet and drink the sugary bait painted on the trees. The kids went on a night hike through the meadow with Dave and found crickets, monarch caterpillars and praying mantids. Thanks to everyone who came - it was fun!
During the hike the kids found this Indigo Stem Borer (Papaipema baptisiae) resting beneath winged sumac
