Why Did the Salamander Cross the Road?

​To get to the other side! No - seriously. The last remaining population of Spotted Salamanders in East Brunswick breed in vernal pools off Beekman Road. They migrate from their hibernation area in the woods to the pools in the early spring, when the weather gets warmer. We expect them to come out during a rainy night when the temperature is over 40F, usually in March to early April.
